The "Magic Pill" Doesn't Exist!!!

Lately I have been ruminating upon the mindset of United States Americans in regards to nutrition and exercise.  Our society has become so privileged and indulgent in so many ways, but the worst is the gluttony and lack of physical activity. Did you know that 70% of Americans are overweight? That is a horrific number of unhealthy individuals in our country. It basically means that the vast majority of us are shortening our own lives over C.R.A.P.: Carbonated Drinks, Refined Sugars, Artificial Sweeteners and Colors, and Processed Foods. This has become "the norm" for what passes as nutrition in America and quite frankly, It's KILLING people!

In our fast paced society, it's easy for people to make excuses. People claim they have little or no time for exercise or to prepare foods of value and healthy nutrition. This is the BIGGEST COP-OUT that exists. The fact is, we're ALL busy! The difference between someone who makes excuses to eat CRAP and skip workouts and someone who gets it done and meets their health and fitness goals with exercise and proper nutrition is PRIORITIZING! The person who is ready to change their life and meet their goals will do whatever it takes to fit a half hour workout into their lives, even if they have to wait until 10pm when the kids are finally asleep. The person who is ready to get healthy will prepare nutritious foods like fruits and vegetables, organic lean proteins, and foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids all in ADVANCE on Sunday so that they have nutritious meals all prepped and easy to grab throughout the week.

The difference between these people is their character and how much they value themselves. The person who lives on excuses to make poor choices for their health needs to work on how they value themselves on the INSIDE before they can make any progress in changing their outward appearance. It's the only logical explanation. If you don't have enough self-worth to believe you're worth taking care of by feeding your body proper nutrition and exercising then you will forever be in a state of self-loathing, gluttony and poor health. IT ISN'T SELFISH TO GET HEALTHY!!! In fact, I think it's MORE SELFISH TO BE UNHEALTHY! You're not only doing a dis-service to yourself but also your loved ones because like I said, you are shortening your life and diminishing your health by making these poor choices.

So, I hate to burst your bubble, but The "Magic Pill" Doesn't Exist!!! All of these diet and exercise fads that promise immediate results with no dietary restraints and no exercise are a FALLACY!!! The fact is, it takes HARD WORK AND DEDICATION on your part to get healthy and sculpt a lean body! Wake up America! When will you realize YOU ARE WORTH MORE?!?! INVEST in yourself! MAKE the time! I did it, even with a newborn and a job and other commitments because I made no excuses! There's NO reason you can't too!

I am here to help you! I am your coach and I've been through the struggle! I am certainly NO SAINT or slave to health and exercise. I WORK AT IT EVERY DAY! But, I do it because I see the worth in my health and who I want to see when I look in the mirror. It's like my man Shaun T says, "DON'T RUN FROM THE WORK, FEEL THE WORK!"

If You Don't Take Care of Your Body, Where Else Will You Live?!

In order to be successful in achieving your health and fitness goals, you must be willing to invest in yourself. As a new (or seasonsed) mom, it's hard to imagine thinking about anyone else but your child or children. Of course, I understand that they come first. It's the nature of a mommy to put others before yourself. However, it's important not to lose value for yourself no matter who else you're responsible for. You're only given one body in this life and if you don't take care of your body, where else will you live???

The life of a mom is very busy and of course revolves around your children's schedules. That's why when it came time for me to set some goals and get back in shape, I opted for workout programs I could do from home and see fast results. This is when the journey of loving Beachbody programs began. The first program I started with was Shaun T's Focus T25 that came out the summer of 2013. The workouts are high impact, high intensity, and only last 25 minutes. I knew this would be perfect for me because I could get in a full-body workout during baby's nap time and have my workout in the books for the day. Anyone has 25 minutes to focus and get it done. You simply cannot get that much bang for your buck in terms of workouts at the gym and in the long run it's soooo much cheaper than a gym membership! Was the program a bit of a financial investment? At first, yes but I've earned my results in record time and already have saved money compared to a gym membership, and I'd know because I've belonged to a few different gyms. When you invest in a Beachbody program you're not only getting scientifically proven workout techniques, you're getting customized nutrition plans, professional trainers, and a community of support to help you stay on track. For the price, there's no better deal. Because of T25 and the support I received from my Beachbody FaceBook group, I had all the support and tools I needed to achieve my goals.

My Transformation Story

Hello and welcome to my blog!

I decided to create this blog to help and inspire other women out there like me who have struggled with weight loss, especially post baby. Here's my story:

My name is Emily and I am a 26 year old wife. mother, teacher and Beachbody Coach. A year and 1 week ago I gave birth to our first born child; a gorgeous baby boy! Prior to my pregnancy I had always been slender and decently in shape. I had never weighed more than 147lbs at my heaviest and I am 5' 7" tall. I always said that I wouldn't be one of those women who uses pregnancy as an opportunity to let it all hang out and get fat, but low and behold, that's exactly what happened. When I was pregnant, I was tired all the time and craved the fattiest and richest foods. The last thing I ever wanted to do was exercise and I hardly did so. By the time I reached the end of my third trimester I had breeched the 200 pound mark on the scale and felt disgusting. After about 2 months of recovering from birth and taking it easy my body had shed the fluid retention and I was down to 186 pounds, leaving me with 40 pounds of fat to lose. The thought of losing that much weight to get back down to my pre-pregnancy size was daunting to me. I had never been faced with the challenge of needing to lose so much fat. It took about a month to find a good routine in terms of exercise but it wasn't until August that things really started to take off. I joined Weight Watchers because the points could be adjusted for breastfeeding mom's to ensure enough nutrition was available for producing milk. I also started a new program from Beachbody called Focus T25 by Shaun T. The program is comprised of high-intensity calisthenic and plyometric exercises that go for 25 minutes at a time with no rest. It was very difficult at first, especially to move quickly with all that extra fat on my body. But, I stayed with the program and my weight watchers points strictly. I averaged a slow steady weight loss of about 4-5 pounds a month. After Christmas it took me a while to get past a plateau as I became too casual about my nutrition. There were lots of mini vacations and time spent with family with a tons of food temptations and distractions that took away from workouts. I was frustrated with myself for letting it continue to happen with only 7 pounds left to loose to get back to pre-pregnancy weight. I continued to workout and even added a weight training program from Beachbody called ChaLEAN Extreme into my Focus T25 routine. But it wasn't until finally, at the end of April I got myself back in gear with my nutrition and points tracking. I readjusted my points since I'm only part-time breastfeeding now and made sure to stay on target in my tracking. I also got more strict about getting my exercise on a more consistent schedule. It only took about a week and a half for my body to positively respond and drop those last 7 pounds and I am continuing to lose!

The combination of good nutrition tracking and the dedication to the amazing workout programs from Beachbody has absolutely changed my life! In 9 short months I got my pre-pregnancy body back and YOU can too!!!
